Lebanese Peas and Beef stew (pressure cooker)

Jump to Recipe

Lebanese Pea stew is a classic dish made with green peas of course, beef and some extra veggies that differ from one region to another.

It is a hearty, traditional spices stew that is very easy to prepare and never complete without some Lebanese style vermicelli rice.

As I mentioned before it is a traditional comfort dish made of a combination of green peas, beef, spices and some other extra few things that differ from house to house cooked to perfection in a tomato sauce but in all cases this dish combined with the vermicelli rice is a healthy balanced meal for kids and adults combined!

Today I am going to share with you my own twist of this dish with a very delicious spice blend which makes this dish even more rich with flavors.

And to make it even better it is an instant pot recipe!

Cooking this stew in an electric pressure cooker gave it more deep flavors from conserving all the good stuff of the beef, peas and veggies.

In addition to saving a lot of time with a pressure cooker, it honestly enhances and gives the stew a deeper warm flavor.

For My version of this recipe, I like to keep it simple with the adding of veggies to keep that sweet taste of the green peas dominant. I add carrots, onions and garlic only. Some people like to add potato cubes or other veggies but I highly recommend to keep it simple; trust me you will enjoy this recipe!

where I like to add some extra twists is the spices! I cannot cook anything without my own twist in spices. What really makes my recipe stand from others’ traditional ones is the combination of ginger, saffron and cayenne pepper. Trust me try my blend of spices with this stew and you will transform this stew from good to marvelous!

for the green peas I am always a fresh ingredients advocate, frozen also is great because we don’t always have access to fresh green peas but at any cost avoid canned ones, it will ruin the texture of your stew and will make it all mushy and lacking this sweet delicious taste of fresh peas.

So enough talking let us get started! whenever you don’t know what to cook and out of ideas and short on time, just throw those few delicious ingredients in your pressure cooker, season it and you are good to go in 10 minutes you will have a warm hearty meal on the table for the whole family to enjoy!

I prepared this video below for you so you can really see how easy and simple it is to make a healthy meal in no time for your family, enjoy!

Notes

Rapeseed oil: I like to cook with this oil because it’s lower in saturated fat and higher in vitamin E and has a higher smoke point making it a better choice for cooking. But you can replace it with any vegetable oil with a neutral taste from your choice it won’t affect the overall taste or texture of the recipe.
Cayenne pepper: you can totally omit this ingredient or replace it with any of your favorite spicy seasoning like chili.
WATER: I use the water to loosen up the gravy in this stew, you may need less or ore according to your taste and you can replace it with beef or vegetable broth also.
Lebanese vermicelli rice: this rice is a simple three ingredient staple Lebanese side dishes made with vermicelli pasta, basmati rice and some oil for cooking, if you want to know how to do it just check my Instagram story highlight under the name “vermicelli rice”.
