Falafel Vegan Burger

Jump to Recipe

One thing that no one can’t resist are burgers. Another thing that many people cannot resist are falafel; you’d find just few people who wouldn’t like it!

The best vegan recipe that even carnivores would dig!

As a proud Lebanese Middle Eastern woman, you will always of course find in my freezer some falafel, next to the hummus and sanbousek and some few “survival essentials” in any Middle Eastern home!

Which makes this recipe very easy to prepare within less than 30 mins.

I highly advice you to keep some falafel dough in the freezer whenever you don’t know what to make, just remove it from freezer and pop it in the oven or air fryer. For air-fryer; a freezed falafel is the best option to have these crispy from the outside and soft from the inside texture that you would have with deep fried falafel.

Falafel are high protein and very healthy earthy dish the only down side is the frying section in the traditional recipes, so if you remove that and add the burger concept!?? I don’t think you can have anything more perfect than that!!!

Baked falafel ham with the non-replaceable tangy tahini dressing and some sour turnip pickles and extra tomato, kale leaves parsley and cucumbers to leave a refreshing texture, hug all those with a soft sesame seeds burger bun and you hold heaven in your hands!

Honestly this is one of my favorite burgers, I prefer it over any meat burger, it’s simply delicious.

Try it with the toppings I used and you won’t regret it because it’s the perfect combination of textures and flavors. I made sure I maintained the earthly fresh taste of the traditional recipe but with a twist!

It is perfect also for a big crowd because 500g of this falafel dough with the fillings and toppings in a burger can feed a lot of people!

    Notes

    • check out this link for an easy turnip pickles recipe
if you cannot find split fava beans you can replace with the same amount of chickpeas.
    • the onion you could use one instead of two if you don’t like the strong flavor but it is really recommended
    • you can put less cumin if you don’t like the strong flavor of cumin.
    • don’t over process the mixture or you will end up with hummus instead of falafel. if your processor is small divide the mixture into two parts and pulse each part aside and then mix it all together with a spatula in a big deep bowl.
    • This recipe can be easily frozen for later , just after mixing everything and BEFORE adding the bicarbonate , store it in a zip lock bag and put it in the freezer whenever you want to use remove the night before and put it down in the fridge or on the kitchen counter top before few hours.
    • the most important thing is not to add the bicarbonate of soda in the mixture if you don’t need to bake in the next 30 minutes maximum.
    • If you cannot find the “Arabic seven spices mix” in the grocery store you can easily mix it at home: 2 tbsp black pepper, 2 tbsp paprika, 2 tbsp ground cumin, 1tbsp ground coriander, 1 tbsp ground cloves, 1 tsp ground nutmeg, 1tsp ground cinnamon, ½ tsp ground cardamom
